Hassan: The Hassan Institute of Medical Science’s Director along with five others has been booked by a Hassan, JMFC court which has ordered criminal cases against him and all the others. The court has taken action based on a private complaint of fake certificates having been submitted by them for promotions at the institute.

The court on Wednesday, ordered registration of criminal cases against B.C. Ravi Kumar, Director of HIMS; Principal of KVG Medical College at Sullia K.S. Gangadhar ,Rache Gowda and M.S. Dhananjaya, —the three former Directors of HIMS; and a Former Director, Department of Medical Education( DME) -Ms Aruna,

The complaint was filed by a private litigant, CV Mohan Raj of Hassan taluk in 2014.

The police after its investigation based on the court order, categorized it as a “B” report, on the basis of 'no evidence' being available to support the allegation. The complainant, however, challenged the police assessment and was allowed to make a sworn statement.

It is believed that Dr Ravi Kumar had submitted work experience certificates of KVG Medical College, Sullia, for the period between 2001-2006. The Litigant Mohan Raj however, alleged that Dr. Kumar was running a clinic during that period at Hassan. The others involved helped him get the certificate and the resultant promotions, he further alleged.

The court has ordered registration of criminal cases for cheating under relevant IPC sections against the accused, and issued summons against them.

Dr. Ravi Kumar, while giving his version to the Hindu stated, “In the past also similar allegations were made against me. The Karnataka Lokayukta and the Department of Medical Education had investigated the allegations and found it misconceived. I have been given the post of Director in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences only after these inquiries were conducted. I will fight the case legally.”
