Bengaluru. : Dr. ME Mohan, Principal BGS,Global Institute of Medical Sciences has been refused anticipatory bail by a city civil and session's court judge, here. Dr. Mohan has been charged for cheating the father of a student, Namitha, of an alleged sum of Rs. 33.72 lacs. Dr. Mohan had allegedly demanded a total of Rs. 1.10 crore from Namitha's father for granting her a medical seat in the college.

In a complaint filed at the Kengeri police station, Namitha’s father K.S. Ramanjaneyalu of Vishakhapatnam claimed that the college Principal, Dr. Mohan along with another accused had made this promise to him on September 30th, 2015.

According to the complaint, Ramanjaneyalu apparently made a check payment of Rs. 33.72 lac to one Cheluva Kumar at the behest of Principal Mohan. His confidantes’ Rafiq Malik and Vijayakumar, were also present at the time. The father further claimed that neither was his daughter given a seat, nor the part money paid by him- refunded. He however, added that he was given two checks of 15 lac each and both of which bounced.

Principal Mohan, however, claimed that he had not received any payment and the medical institution has always maintained clarity and transparency by keeping matters related to admission public.

While rejecting the bail plea Judge BB Jakati, took a strong stance against corrupt practices ongoing in medical colleges. “Educational institutions have been established with an object to impart education.... But now it has become their business to get money from students and parents.... If the rate of payment seat as alleged in this case is looked into, it is clear that educational institutions are extracting money from students and their parents,” he said.

It is further reported that accused Cheluva kumar was apparently arrested in some other case and Rs. 3 lac recovered from him.
