Karnataka: An aspirant who was given a medical seat under government quota has now lost the opportunity to pursue the course. Reason; submission of a fake rural certificate by the student. An inquiry in to the matter confirmed the news that the student had indeed submitted a fake rural certificate at the time of admission.

An inquiry was held after there was a complaint lodged by an unknown person, putting allegation on the candidate. The candidate's name is Balaji from the Kolar district. The complainant had alleged that Balaji has submitted a fake rural certificate in order to secure medical admission through CET 2015. Following which, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) inquired into the matter. The inquiry took an year and later, it was proved that the certificate submitted by Balaji was fake.

Basis the inquiry report, KEA authorities informed the Medical Education Department in writing. They communicated to the department, suggesting withdrawal of Balaji’s medical seat, therefore, leading to cancellation of Balaji’s admission. Balaji had taken admission in Sridevi Institute of Medical Sciences in Tumakuru.

KEA has gone ahead in further recommending disciplinary action against those responsible for issuing fake certificates. The district education coordinator is also reported to have signed the document- with no verification.

Express reported that the KEA has no mechanism to track fake certificates. In case of suspicion, KEA will write to concerned authorities who have issued certificates. A few years ago, a fake document racket was busted where over 150 candidates got seats submitting fake income, caste, and rural certificates. The CID inquiry into the racket is still going on.
