Karnataka: Students in colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) are in a fix as they have lost a chance to appear for the final examination for the PG course they are pursuing.

There are over 900 post-graduate (MD) medical students, whose counseling was completed in September-three months after the schedule. The final examination schedule is to begin from May 21.

The story involves 900 students who took admission in the academic year 2013-14. They are the select group of students who have been intimated by the university that they are not eligible to appear for the exam. They were asked to take supplementary exams instead.

As reported by Express, as per the rules, counselling for PG courses (MD/MS) concludes by July 31 every year. But for these 900 candidates, the counselling was delayed as the state government appealed before the Supreme Court to conduct its own entrance test against the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) announced by the Medical Council of India.

Following a Supreme Court directive, the state government conducted its own entrance test and by the time the counselling process was completed, it was already September.

However, as per the latest update from the university authorities it has been clearly implied that as per the MCI guidelines it is compulsory for candidates to complete three years to take up the MD exams. So, no relaxation is possible in this case.
