Karnataka: 3 held for cheating students on medical admissions

Bengaluru: Three engineering graduates from Bengaluru have been arrested by the police for having cheated five people of lacs of rupees, in the lure for medical seats for their wards.The names of the three are-Bharath Babu, 25, Anchith Sharma, 26 and Ritesh Kumar, 29.The police is looking for their fourth accomplice Anand Singh, from Bihar.


It is alleged that in three different cases, they cheated people of an alleged total of Rs. 38 lacs. Caught by the police on a complaint lodged by B Tirupathi, a resident of Kengeri, who alleges that he was cheated of Rs 10.7 lakh by the trio.


Mr. Tirupati was offered a medical seat for his son at the BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences. After having collected the money, the men went missing.


The three arrests were made on Tuesday by the police. During interrogation they confessed to have cheated others too. The modus operandi used by the three pretended to be part of the college recruiting team, whose seat they promised, took the aspirants on campus tours and then duped them into purchasing the medical seat for lakhs of rupees.


According to M. N. Anucheth, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West division), said the trio had cheated six students from Telangana.They sold medical seats for Rs. 11 lakh to Rs. 22 lakh the police sources further added.


Four students -Gyan Raj, Abhishek, Satyam and Subang Gupta -of an engineering college in VV Puram, lost Rs 6.4 lakh, for the promise of a change of course.


Another person was cheated in Tumakuru of Rs 21.5 lakh by them, once again for a medical seat. Police have seized Rs 37.95 lakh and a Honda car from the three.
