Kochi: The Admission Supervisory Committee has been given a directive by the Kerala High Court to take a decision on admissions to Karuna and Kannur Medical Colleges, after reviewing all relevant student records put forth by the managements.

As a stern warning to the two colleges for not complying with the condition of online uploading of applications set by the court, a division bench has directed that the institutions pay Rs. One lac each for laxity and “spoiling the time of the court.” The money is to be paid to the Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre, Ernakulam, within a period of one month.

According to the court's directive, the committee is also to finalize the right of eligible students for admission based on the inter se merit among the students already admitted by the petitioners’ institutions, and those identified by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations in the spot allotment held on October 7, 2016, alongside with the relative claim of the students, who had approached the High Court.

The court has ordered that the petitioners place all relevant records related to admissions before the committee by 10 am on Oct 31,2016. The committee is to finalize the proceedings at the earliest. Audited balance sheets and other records are also to be placed before the committee in two weeks, before a call is taken on the fee structure of the colleges.

The court also directed the committee to finalize the fixation of annual fee, for the course, in a period of three months. The court made clear that if the fee fixed by the committee was less that that mentioned in the prospectus and already paid by the students, then the necessary refunds or adjustments in the future years of fee payment, be made.

The court also discarded its interim order upholding the committee order de-reserving 35 per cent of the management seats in the Karuna Medical College.
