Kalpana Chawla Medical College inaugurates its hospital OPD

Karnal: The hospital and the Out patient Department of the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) was inaugurated on March 18 and not the medical college. An announcement to this effect was made by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Medical Education, Dhanpat Singh on Wednesday.


The inaugural ceremony would be attended by the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, along with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Health Minister, Anil Vij and MLAs from the district.


Earlier the government had decided to inaugurate the college building on March 15, however, the government showing no haste have decided to inaugurate only the hospital and the out patient buildings.


The project and inaugural arrangements were inspected by the Additional Chief Secretary.The out patient department wing of the college hospital being run in the old building for the last five years was shifted to the new structure on Monday and its working reviewed by the Additional Chief Secretary.


The project that was supposed to have been completed in December last, will now see completion by June 30. The Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. Singh admitted to the construction of the building to be on still. He however was unable to give a satisfactory reply on the imposition of fine on the construction firm for the delay.


"Only the building of the hospital and out patient department will be inaugurated on March 18. The college building will be completed by June 30. The last date to apply for admission to the college will be September 30 and classes will commence on October 1," he told the Tribune.


Questioned about the poor quality of furniture in the building, he said they would ensure the quality in the college. He was accompanied by Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH; Aditya Dahiya, MC Commissioner; Yogesh Kumar, SDM; and Sudhanshu Gautam, CTM.
