JIPMER to get new integrated OPD block
Puducherry: JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research), a centrally- sponsored premier medical institution here, has established a separate block to offer integrated OPD healthcare services. JIPMER Director S C Parija said the multi-storied block has been set up at a cost of Rs 42.72 crore as part of the third phase of development of infrastructure at the institute.
The block, which would be inaugurated soon, houses different departments and also a pharmacy to ensure that patients turning up for healthcare services do not run from pillar-to-post to get treatment, he said in a release. The Medical Records Department, now functioning in the main block, would be shifted to the new screening OPD block and the MRD is a totally computerised wing. There would be 36 counters for registration, including those for women, senior citizens, pensioners of JIPMER, super-speciality services, birth and death registration. The Director said the purpose of having the block was to ensure quick registration and also for collection of lab reports.
A separate counter for online registration by patients would also be available.
A full-fledged "geriatric wing" on the lines of the Central governments policy on care of the aged has also been added to the new block with investigation facilities and physiotherapy among other features.
A full fledged diabetic clinic has also been proposed to be set up which would function in the afternoons.
The Director said that the hospital is committed to provide free patient care services despite all constrains.
