JIPMER starts use of Marine Resources for Wound Management

Puducherry: (JIPMER) here has started use of Marine Resources for Wound Management.

According to a Jipmer release on Tuesday, this has been initiated by the Department of Plastic Surgery. Recently a Continuing Medical Education (CME) on 'Wound Update-2018' was organized by the Department of Plastic Surgery to sensitize and to make aware of this technology in wound management.

Although this patented technology already exists in the USA and other countries, in India, this technology is new to help the patients of chronic wounds like Burn Wounds, Diabetic foot ulcers, Bed Sores, Infected Wounds, Trauma Wounds, Surgical Wounds, etc. Jipmer being Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for Telemedicine, the entire programme was telecasted live to more than 160 Medical Colleges of South India.

According to Organizing Chairpersons of CME, Prof Dr Ravi Kumar Chittoria and Dr Dinesh Kumar S (HOD) informed that the CME was attended by Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, General Surgeons, Orthopaedics, Dental Surgeons and Nurses. Prof Dr G. Manokaran and Dr Rajmohan from Chennai were invited as Guest Speakers.

A panel discussion was also organized to discuss the practical aspects of use of marine resources (Shrimps) in the management of chronic wounds. Following the CME and supply of these marine resources, Jipmer has started using on patients of wounds of different etiologies. Subsequently the results will be published in an indexed journal for others awareness and education, the release said.

This treatment is provided free of cost to the patients.
