Jipmer starts digital Medical Lecture Centre

Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) here has started 'Digital Medical Lecture Theatre' under National Medical College Network (NMCN) Project of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), Govt of India recently.


According to a Jipmer release on Friday, the Govt. of India is providing this service by converting existing Lecture theatre into a Digital Medical Lecture Theatre. Registrar (Academic), Prof Dr Ravi Kumar Chittoria, Head IT wing Jipmer said that this state of art Digital Medical Lecture Theatre is first in the country launched by jipmer.


This project has been envisaged by MoHFW to interlink all medical colleges of the country with high-speed optic fibre backbone from National Knowledge Network (NKN). The prime objective of the project is to create a standard and cohesive environment for medical education by deployment of advanced Information and Communication Technology systems for Tele-education, Knowledge sharing, Continuous Medical Education (CME), and capacity building for Students, Doctors, medical experts, and Citizens. MoH&FW has approved M/S ERNET INDIA (an Autonomous scientific society of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) as the System Integrator (SI) for implementation of NMCN scheme in 50 Medical Colleges in India.


According to Dr Vivekenandam, Director, Jipmer, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), Govt Of India not only provided digital equipment but also manpower to manage the Digital Medical Lecture Theatre. This facility will bridge the gap between higher medical institutions and other medical colleges of India. Director suggested utilising this service judicially keeping high standards.
