Jipmer postpones results for MBBS entrance exam

Puducherry: Jipmer has postponed publishing of the MBBS exam results citing technical reasons. Anxiety prevailed over the gathered students and parents on the expected day of announcement of the results. It was earlier scheduled on June 13. MBBS seats at Jimper campus in Puducherry is 200 for this academic year. 50 seats are offered for Karaikal campus, allotted on merit basis. The counseling for seats is likely to be postponed now. It was earlier scheduled on June 20, 21 and 22.

Adding the anxiety was the rumor that results will be out in different phases through the day. As there was no official confirmation on the matter, students were left apprehending on the situation. First, the expectation was that it would be known by afternoon. Then, there was talk that it would be available by 6 p.m.,” said K.R. Mathew, an activist with the Puducherry Swaraj Organisation and also the parent of an aspirant to the media.

It was only at 7.30 pm, that the Dean of the medical college signed a notice that the results will be declared around June 17. Still, no exact reason was given to the restless crowds present at the venue.

The Jipmer entrance examination for MBBS admissions was conducted on June 5. The exam was conducted at 270 test centres across 75 cities in India. It was conducted in two shifts-in morning and afternoon. 1, 55,193 medical aspirants applied for the exam. Around 70 per cent of students who applied appear for the exam across the centres. In Puducherry alone, 90 per cent of the 3,098 students appeared after registering for the exam.

In exact figures it means, 59,017 registered candidates of the 82,019 appeared in the morning shift. 49,537 registrants of the 73,178 appeared for the second round of examination.

When contacted, Dr. S.C. Parija, Jipmer Director, told The Hindu that a decision was taken to postpone the results due to a “technical problem” with the compilation.

“We will have the results out as soon as possible,” he said.
