JIPMER issues notice for junior residents pursuing MD, MS

Puducherry: Through a recent circular, the premier Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER Puducherry) has informed about the course duration including residency period of medicos pursuing MD, MS courses.


The institute has notified all junior residents who are pursuing MD/MS courses in JIPMER from 2017, January session onwards that they should complete 3 years of residency tenure from the date of their joining in the respective departments.


The Junior Residents should continue to work in their respective departments even if the final university exam is held before completion of the residency period, the notice added.

JIPMER which includes a tertiary care referral hospital is an Institution of National Importance (an autonomous body) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The medical institution was established in the year 1823 by the French Government but was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College at the time of de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India. This Medical College was later upgraded into Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.

JIPMER offers MD courses in Anesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion and Immuno Hematology, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Venereology &Leprology, Emergency Medicine, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Microbiology, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, Radio-diagnosis and Radiotherapy.
