JIPMER: Contract Workers stage PROTEST against Salary issues

Puducherry: In order to press their demand for salary disbursement on time, the contract workers of Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on Wednesday boycotted their work and held a demonstration in the campus.


The workers are demanding the disbursement of their salary on 5th of every month. The workers alleged that the disbursement of their salary was delayed and now they are getting it on 28th of every month.


As the works were affected, JIPMER management held talks with them, following which they called off their stir.

JIPMER which includes a tertiary care referral hospital is an Institution of National Importance (an autonomous body) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The medical institution was established in the year 1823 by the French Government but was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College at the time of de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India. This Medical College was later upgraded into Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.
