Jharkhand: In a move which is expected to bring cheers to the doctor’s community in the state, the local government has decided to increase the age limit for receiving applications for academic posts in three government medical colleges.

Following which, the state is likely to receive more applications for the academic posts, as there will be new deserving candidates. The age limit has been increased by five years for the posts of senior residents and tutors at RIMS in Ranchi, Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Dhanbad and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC) in Jamshedpur

However, this is a temporary move to fill the vacant posts only for this year. Emphasizing on this point, principal health secretary K Vidyasagar has implied that this year we have approximately 30% vacant posts of tutors and senior residents in these three colleges. During the interviews we noted that the most applicants are above the cut-off age. So, we decided to implement this new age rule to fill the posts before the start of new academic session, so as to be able to retain the seats.

The standard age limit was 30 years for general category applicants, 42 for specially-abled and 37 for other backward classes.

As quoted by TOI, in another decision, the cabinet okayed the participation of students as interns in the Atal Mission for Urban Rejuvenation and Transformation (Amrut). The central scheme launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2015 aims to establish infrastructure for building robust sewer networks and water supply for urban centers in India.

The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 60 crore for Triveni water supply project in Godda.
