Jaipur: SMS Medical College to gets MCI nod for 9 SS seats, including newly started Mch Surgical Oncology

Jaipur: The prominent Sawai Man Singh Medical College in the city is all set to move to higher specialisation with the Medical Council of India (MCI) giving it the nod to add 9 super speciality seats across four different courses

The first Oncology department in the state is all set to start at the Sawai Man Singh Medical College (SMS Medical College). The institution has been permitted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to start Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) in surgical oncology (MCh Surgical Oncology), the most specialised course , with four seats for the academic year 2019-20.

Besides this, through a recently issued letter of permission by the MCI, the SMS Medical College has also been permitted to increase in seats in super-speciality courses.

  1. Seats in MCh Neurosurgery have been increased from 12 to 14

  2. One Seat has been increased in DM Nephrology taking up the count from 4 seats to 5 seats

  3. Two seats have been increased in DM Gastroenterology taking the total seats in the course to 8

Dr Sudhir Bhandari principal and controller, SMS Medical College informed the TOI, "We have succeeded in bringing four MCh seats in surgical oncology. There are very few medical colleges in the country having MCh in surgical oncology."

The Medical Dialogues team has earlier reported that the MCI had given its nod to offer 4 Super-Specialty (SS) courses with a total of 13 seats at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital from the next academic year of 2020-21.
