INDORE: A fresh High Court directive has been issued to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), to grant admission to the MBBS students without any further delay and pay Rs 10,000 as cost per candidate.

The fresh order has come in response to the contempt petition filed here and the earlier court directive not having been attended to; even after eight days of issue.

The bench comprising of Justice Virendra Singh and Justice PK Jaiswal while disposing the petition finally instructed the DME to grant admission to the MBBS students without any further delay and also pay them a sum of Rs.10,000 each.

Advocate, Aditya Sanghi presented arguments on behalf of 29 students who had been given admissions, “in excess of intake capacity” in private medical colleges of Ujjain and Devas

The contempt petition had been filed after the DME failed to comply with the High Court, Indore bench's order dated November 8, directing him to grant admission to the students.

The 29 students had been granted admission to Ujjain's RD Gardi Medical College and Dewas's Amaltas Institute of Medical Sciences above the fixed capacity of the college during the counseling on October 7. However, after the students took admission and paid their fees, the DME passed an order dated October 21, cancelling their admission.

"The students had approached the high court regarding the matter who passed an order to re-admit the students. The DME then moved an appeal before the Supreme Court against the decision of the high court, where the apex court upheld the decision by the Indore bench. However, in effect the students have not yet been granted admission to the Colleges which can be harmful for the academic schedule as they might get debarred from appearing for the exams," Aditya Sanghi, petitioner's counsel said.
