Chennai: PG Counselling scheduled for May 27 for Government Medical Colleges and Self Financing Colleges has been indefinitely postponed by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research(DMER). The counselling scheduled for May 27 was meant to have been the last day of counselling for the second phase.

“Candidates must join college on May 29. If candidates don’t join, we will get those seats on the next day. So we planned to conduct the counselling after those seats are surrendered. So we postponed the counselling,” said G Selvaraj, secretary, selection committee.

It is reported that The Medical Council of India(MCI), instructions call for counselling to be over on or before May 31.

A few non-service doctors demonstrated at the venue of the PG medical counselling being conducted at the Government Multi Super-Speciality Hospital in the city on Thursday.

In an earlier report, the Medical Dialogues team reported on the first phase of counselling conducted at Government Medical Colleges in the city that counselled aspirants for post graduate medical seats for 36 vacancies in MD/MS/diploma programs and 2 in Dentistry , rounded off their first phase of counselling.

“In-service doctors have secured maximum number of seats, because of government tactics to pacify government doctors who were protesting against the Madras HC order recently. The government notified the rural areas as remote areas, because of this many government doctors benefitted. But, non-service doctors who scored well in NEET could not get seats. Because of adding incentive marks, the score of the in-service doctors increased,” said a student , who did well in NEET, but could only bag a diploma seat.

The four days of counselling had seen 722 seat allotments done. Of the 1,450 students invited , only 950 showed up for the counselling sessions. 162 candidates are on the wait list of the authorities. Meanwhile, the Secretary G. Selvarajan announced that the next date for counselling would be declared shortly reports TNIE.
