Inadequate Facilities: MBBS Students at Nahan Medical College on Mass Boycott

Solan: Students of Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan, boycotted their classes in protest against the unavailability of adequate facilities on the campus. The students complained about the college lacking basic facilities leading to the running of the class becoming troublesome. With black ribbons tied around their arms, students refused to enter the class, despite coaxing attempts made by their teachers.


The students airing their grievances said that the medical college was going against MCI norms by making do with the Ayurveda hospital in place of the sanctioned 50-bed hospital for training students, according to the Tribune.


Of the major demands raised by the students on this occasion some of the prominent ones were: an inclusion of diet in the hostel menu, toilet facility for students water filter installation, and safe drinking water The college is also facing an 83% shortfall of senior residents.


The students are demanding the principal’s intervention for resolving problems faced by them in the college.


The college commenced its first academic session with a student strength of 100 in 2016 and now has its third batch running. The strike by students is taking on ominous overtones
