IGMCH gets equipment donation of Rs 35.28 crores, saving its recognition

Nagpur: The recognition of the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) granted by the Medical Council was saved from being jeopardized at the hands of the apex education regulator, due to the donation of Rs35.28 crore to the college by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust Shirdi.


The donation, of course, was a result of the collaborative efforts of Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, Medical Education Secretary, Sanjay Deshmukh, Medical Education Minister, Girish Mahajan and District Guardian Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule,


The donation by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust is meant to fund the MRI, CAT scan, Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machines and other equipment required to gain the MCI approval for recognition.


The state government issued a regulation on April 10, mentioning the trust’s donation of Rs35.28 crore for the college. The regulation gave details of the money allotted to buy each equipment.The college had been threatened derecognition of 150 seats if the equipment mentioned above was not procured this year.


IGMCH, Dean Dr Anuradha Shrikhande told TOI that the GR has allocated Rs12 crore for a 1.5 Tesla MRI, Rs7 crore for 128 slice CAT scan, Rs6 crore for DSA, Rs6 crore for fully automated hospital laundry plan, Rs15 lakh for 10 paediatric and neonatal ventilators, Rs36 lakh for one USG doppler machine, Rs50 lakh for one high-end ophthalmic operative microscope.Rs12 lakh for 10 adult ventilators, Rs2 lakh for 20 monitors, Rs2 lakh for ten servo controlled warmers, and Rs3 lakh for 4 advanced Bipap machines.
