IGGMCH, Nagpur granted a Rs 50 Crore special grant

Nagpur: Rs 50 crore has been announced as a special grant to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital by the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.


The money said the CM would be utilized to convert IGGMCH into a state of art hospital. The college deserves to get this additional fund as it is entering a new era of its existence and development he added.. The CM asked the colleges present strength to contribute their share towards society by serving in the rural areas for a minimum of five years.


He said in retrospect they would find that the work is done in the rural areas as having been the richest experience of their lives.


The CM reminded them that work done in government institutions could not be compared to that one in private practice or institutions. According to him the critical care management that the medical students did in government colleges was un-comparable; hence the legacy created unparalleled, Fadnavis added


He said doctors who could take the pressures on government institutions finally emerged as the more mature and experienced practitioners.

Dr Anand Pangarkar, the President of the IGGMC alumni association highlighting the growth of the institution said that it was for the first time that the college alumni have offered to provide their services in various super specialities and the government has agreed.


In fact, a plastic surgery operation was already done a day ago by an alumnus plastic surgeon he added. He said that the alumni were trying to raise funds from the corporate sector to start an 'Integrated Child Health Institute'.


Earlier the college's Acting Dean, Dr Anuradha Shrikhande, while listing the achievements and the pending projects of the institution, said that the college had come a long way from starting with 60 and now moving in the direction of getting 200 seats soon. She said that the college immediately needed a CAT scan, an MRI, and a DSA to meet Council institutional requirements.


Those present on the occasion included Dr Milind Mane, MLA and alumnus, MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh, Sudhakar Kolhe and Vikas Kumbhare, MP Dr Vikas Mahatme, Deputy Mayor Deepak Pardikar, Zilla Parishad President, Nisha Sawarkar, Principal Secretary Medical Education Sanjay Deshmukh, Joint Director, Medical Education Dr Prakash Wakode.


Two students were felicitated for their exceptional work. Sanjana Jaiswal was felicitated for presenting a paper at Atlanta during MBBS. Her guide Dr Dipty Jain Head, paediatrics were also honoured. Kunal Khobragade was honoured for bagging gold medal, from Tata Memorial Hospital for oncology. Dr Ravi Chavan presented a vote of thanks, reports TOI.
