Hyderabad: Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences and ESIC Medical College sign MOU

Hyderabad: The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and ESIC Medical College have entered in to an MOU to exchange knowledge, expertise and infrastructure. NIMS will make use of the infrastructure at ESIC medical college and likewise, ESIC will seek assistance of super speciality experts of NIMS.


NIMS director Dr Manohar and dean of ESIC Medical College Dr M Srinivas have reportedly signed MOU in presence of Union minister of state for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya and Telangana health minister C Laxma Reddy recently.


Speaking on the occasion, Dattatreya implied that as per the terms of the deal, NIMS, which has many good doctors in all super speciality departments, will extend their services to the ESIC super speciality hospital. After the doctors complete their DM/MCH courses, they are now expected to offer the one-year mandatory service at ESIC super speciality hospital.


Employees and their family members would be treated 24x7 at these hospitals. NIMS would get the most modern infrastructure and equipment of ESIC hospital along with accommodation to doctors on the college campus. ESIC college would offer 60% seats to Telangana and 40% seats to ESIC-insured workers, he said to TOI. Dattaraya added that the Union government would extend 60% of about Rs 1,000 crore allotted for medical purposes in the country for Telangana.


Dattatraya, along with Dr C. Laxma Reddy implied that this is for the first time that an MOU has been signed between ESIC medical college and NIMS for the said purpose.


Bandaru in addition implied that with this new arrangement, many workers and their family can take advantage in treatment available to them 24x7. There are various diseases which can be treated by different departments including, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Nephrology, Urology, Radiology and Anesthesiology and so on. NIMS can now utilize modern infrastructure and equipment's of ESIC. At the same time, ESIC will benefit from the talent pool of doctors at NIMS.


The Union Minister also stated to the press that under Prime Minister’s Swasth Suraksha Yojana, the Centre was offering its 60% share of Rs 150 crore to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Adilabad, Rs 150 crore to Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, Rs 150 crore to State Cancer Centre totaling about Rs. 1,000 crore.
