Bhopal: Betul District seems to be reeling under the stench of ragging after an MBBS student allegedly took his own life due to alleged building pressures, physical abuse and humiliation faced by him

Vexed due to alleged harassment, Yash Pathe, who was studying at Laxmi Narayan Medical College (LNMC), Bhopal in Bhopal, hanged himself at his cousin's house here on June 13. A case was registered against five people 11 days later.

A video footage made public by daily ' Mirror news.com.' indeed revealed it to be a case of ragging and torture by certain seniors outsiders and a gross violation of human rights suffered by the boy. The video clipping clearly showed a senior making a determined effort to harm, by whipping him brutally with a belt, parting his legs and striking at his private parts, as well.

Interestingly the college, however, attributes his death to his poor performance in the exam which he failed last year, instead of ragging, reported the Mirror.

Anupam Chouksey, LNMC Trust Secretary further elaborating on the student to the PTI claimed that Yash had stopped coming to college since last one year and therefore, had ceased being a student of the institution. He had also failed to clear his exam.

He had been a student of the 2016 batch, he added. He also denied that Yash being subjected to ragging in the college. However, the video footage made public by Times Now, had another story to tell.

Smashing the medical college for his son's death. Yash's father, Prahlad Sathe had told News 18 "My son got admitted to LNMC last year. Some of his seniors had ragged my son who lodged a complaint with the college management, but no action was taken against them."

"Seniors were ragging and bothering him. Some students of the college had thrashed Yash and his seniors had even accused him of stealing money," Sathe added.

Yash's father Prahlad Pathe told UNI that he trusted college administration and left his son to study there but outsiders tortured his son. He blamed the college management for the incident. He alleged that the culprits are associated with influential families.

Arrests

Almost a fortnight afterthe medical student took his own life, three people including a woman who allegedly harassed him and thus abetted the suicide are still out of police reach, police said.

Investigation revealed that Yash was thrashed by the accused. Though Gaurav Dubey and Akash Soni were arrested, the group's chieftain Shruti Sharma who is daughter of a retired senior government official, Bhopal-resident Shaleen Upadhyay and Satna-native Kartik Khare are on the run.

The gang that included other senior students and outsiders used to extort money from students for their profligate spending. According to police, Yash was accused of stealing Rs 10,000 for which he was beaten. Meanwhile, a video of the incident has gone viral wherein the woman is seen threatening Yash to close certain matter. The video has no discussion on money.

Town Inspector (Kotwali) R Sahu said that a police team has been dispatched to nab the accused. UNI adds that college administration did not come under the purview of investigation as the ragging incident has been resolved
