High Court stays appointment by transfers by DME-Telangana

Hyderabad: The 'appointment by transfers' undertaken by the Director of Medical Education – Telangana was stayed by Justice A Ramalingeswar Rao of the High Court.


The stay was ordered in response to a writ petition filed by Dr Sumitra Rani, Assistant Professor – General Medicine, Mahabubnagar, questioning the action of the Director of Medical Education and the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare in trying to fill vacancies of Assistant Professors in General Medicine, in the above manner, without revealing the actual vacancies to the applicants.


The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare in a notification issued on Nov 14 invited information from doctors with PG in various disciplines/specialties for appointment by transfer in the categories of Assistant Professors.


Provisional vacancies for Assistant Professors in 15 specialties were notified, numbering at 268 vacancies.


Though vacancies in each specialty were notified, the college wise vacancies were not mentioned.


Dr K Lakshmi Narasimha, Counsel for the petitioner pointed out that when the petitioner was absorbed in the office of Director of Medical Education during 2016, the total of 6 vacancies was notified in the Speciality of General Medicine. Of these, two vacancies were available at Osmania & Gandhi Medical College. However, college wise vacancies were not displayed reports Telangana Today.


He revealed that within a short span of six months, 22 vacancies have been reflected in the Speciality of General Medicine which is an impossibility.


Justice Rao has called the matter for hearing after 3 weeks along with other similar matters. He also stayed all posting orders pursuant to the impugned notification.
