Health Ministry released Rs. 46.50 crore for Kohima medical college : Minister

New Delhi:Rs 46.50 crores have been released for setting up the Medical College at Naga Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the centrally sponsored scheme of Establishment of New Medical Colleges.
In a December 9 written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Anupriya Patel informed that Rs. 36.50 crore was released in 2014-15, followed by another Rs. 10 crore in 2015-16, making the total sum released till now to be Rs. 46.50 crore (2016-17).


She also informed that the ministry catered to a CSS (Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals) fund sharing between the centre and state governments in a ratio of 90:10 for NE/special category states and 60:40 for other States.


Ms. Patel also informed the house that the total cost incurred for establishing a medical college was to the tune of Rs.189 cr. According to her, 58 districts in 20 states /UT’s had been identified under this scheme, and the concerned governments asked to submit detailed project reports (DPRs) . 51 proposals out of the ones received have been approved by the ministry.


The Minister also revealed that the ministry also supervised a program named “Capacity building for developing trauma care facilities in Govt. Hospitals on national Highways.” The program she said provided financial assistance to the state governments for upgrading and providing uninterrupted trauma care facilities in selected government hospitals & medical colleges in or around National/State Highways/accident prone areas. ”The funding pattern is to the ratio of of 60:40 between Central Government and State Government; 90:10 for North Eastern States and 100% for UTs she added.
