Chandigarh:The decision to keep SGT Medical College, Gurgaon out of combined counselling by the Haryana state government has besides leading to raised eyebrows, now been dismissed by judicial authorities.

A Supreme Court judgement passed yesterday with regards to private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh, has influenced the Department of Medical Education and Research in Haryana to move a cancellation proposal regarding all admissions undertaken by the SGT Medical College. It has now asked for fresh admissions, through combined counselling be done in the college. The proposal awaits the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar’s consent.

“The mandate of our (earlier) judgement was to hold centralized entrance test followed by a centralized counselling by the state to make it one composite process. We, therefore, direct that admission to all medical seats shall be conducted by centralized counselling only by the state government and none else,” said a five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Justice AR Dave.

“If any counselling had been done by any college or university and any admission to any medical seat has been given so far, such admissions shall stand cancelled forthwith and admissions shall be given only as per the centralized counselling done by the state government,” stated the order.

Director, Department of Medical Education and Research, Haryana, DK Bahera, confirmed the proposal having been moved by the state’s medical research body

“Orders of the Supreme Court are applicable throughout the country and the verdict clearly directs the government to cancel all admission made by the SGT Medical College and fill them though combined counselling under the NEET,” Bahera said.
