Gwalior’s Gajra Raja Medical College likely to expel more students over Vyapam Scam
MP: An atmosphere of panic and uncertainty is currently prevailing in Gwalior’s Gajra Raja Medical College, after the news reached the students that the college administration is expected to expel more students-over their alleged involvement in the Vyapam scam.
Earlier this month, 23 students were reportedly expelled due to the same reason, and now 27 more students are likely to be expelled over this issue. These students belong to the batch from 2006 to 2012.
Alleged as a part of the scam, these students have secured admission using unfair means during exams, including impersonation.
A panel set up by the state’s directorate of medical education has found these group of students guilty at the Gajra Raja Medical College.
However, there is still a small ray of hope as implied by few sources that a high level committee of the institute will take a final call on March 31.
Only in February 2015, the Jabalpur High Court has ordered the directorate of medical education to allow these students to pursue their studies at that point of time; while, the SIT team was ordered to probe the matter by the court.
The special investigation team reporting on the matter has kept the names of the students recorded in a charge sheet. The college has withheld the names as they fear that the students may directly approach the court over the decision.
As quoted by HT, the 23 students who were expelled this month tried to submit a memorandum to college dean SN Iyengar, demanding revocation of the decision. Iyengar, however, refused to take the note.
“The college shouldn’t have thrown us out as the court has given us relief and allowed us to continue studies till further orders,” said a student on condition of anonymity. “If the charges against us are not proved, who will be responsible for spoiling our career?”
The college has so far expelled 133 students, who were admitted between 2006 and 2012, for alleged fraud.
“Investigation is being carried out at three levels,” said GS Patel, the state’s director of medical education. “We are recommending the names to the college and the college committee will take the final decision.”
