Gujarat: Vadodara Medical college intern takes her life

Surat: A 22-year-old Vadodra College medical student’s decomposed body was recovered hanging from an apartment in Piplod area of the city, on Saturday. The police suspect that she may have hung her self-last Monday. Preliminary investigations are suggestive of suicide . A suicide note has been found in the apartment, which does not blame anyone for the act.


Heta Dhiraj Patel was a medical intern at ESIC Hospital in Gotri. Heta’s body was recovered when the neighbours living close to the apartment alerted the family about the foul smell emanating from the flat. Upon opening the door the family saw the decomposed body hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.The Police called for investigation sent the body for post-mortem.


"The body was decomposed and we faced difficulty in bringing it down from the ceiling fan. We recovered a suicide note from the apartment and nothing suspicious was found there," the police informed Times of India. Heta's parents live in Navsari. Her father is a retired deputy engineer from the Roads and Buildings Department of the state; while her mother is a schoolteacher. After her father's retirement, the family had settled in Navsari and Heta joined an MBBS course at a medical college in Vadodara. She was presently a medical intern at ESIC Hospital in Gotri at Vadodara.


She is believed to have come to the Piplod family apartment on Monday, without informing her family at Navsari. She took the keys from the neighbours to enter the apartment. After which no one had seen her come out of it, the neighbours told the family and the police. The family received an alert from the neighbours, on Saturday, about the foul smell coming from the flat.


"From the suicide note, it seems that she had ended her life. She did not hold anyone responsible for her suicide and apologized to the family about taking the extreme step. We are yet to find out the exact reason behind her suicide," the police said. Her one-and-a-half page suicide note stated of her desire to want to end her life.


The police are trying to figure out whether, after her return to the Piplod flat, she had spoken to any of the family members.


Police are trying to retrieve information from the two SIMS used by Heta. Examination of the mobile phone that Heta was using is also on. The apartment where the incident took place, otherwise, remained locked, as the family lived in Navsari, reports TOI.
