Gujarat: SMIMER to increase hospital bed capacity

Surat: Another 180 beds are being added to the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research's Hospital (SMIMER) bed capacity, raising the total number to 830. The increase in bed capacity will also facilitate in increasing the number of MBBS seats from the existing 150 to more in the future. The corporation has also decided to expand its hospital into a six floor structure in an area covering 4,200 square metre area.

Dean, SMIMER, Dr. Kalpana Desai said, "The 180 beds would come up in six wards. Each ward such as those for epidemic and psychology patients would have additional 30 beds each. This expansion was required. The medical seats in the institute were increased from 100 to 150 a few years ago."


The SMC is also planning to elevate SMIMER’s administrative and departmental wings along with its radiology and other lab units.
