Ahmedabad- The Admissions Committee for Professional Medical Educational Courses (ACPMEC) has finally been handed over controls of admissions to NRI and management quota seats in medical courses by 85 of the self-financed colleges across the state. The task has been accomplished with the help of the Union Government.

With a seat strength of 14,000 and 4,500 under management and NRI quota, these self financed institutions, earlier, managed seats under these quotas on their own.

The State government in a decision taken last year had decided to conduct admissions to these quotas. However, it met with stiff opposition from self financed or private colleges, which went to the extent of advertising in the newspapers announcing that these quota admissions would be conducted by private colleges alone.

As the self financed colleges were seen prolonging their hold on the management and NRI quota seats, thereby, delaying giving their consent to the wishes of the government, the upper echelons in the ruling party of the state began working on their minds, finally ending up winning their favour in support of the government wishes, reports TOI.
