Gujarat: A matter involving MBBS students being granted higher marks by faculties at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is currently under investigation. Two students who allegedly involved in the matter have already been penalized.

The varsity has taken a harsh action against both the students for their alleged involvement. They have been barred for appearing in exams for a year. One student has even appealed in Gujarat High Court against the decision; however, the appeal has been rejected by the court.

Now, the university is also investigating the matter in greater detail to find out the faculties involved in the matter-who evaluated the papers, and subsequently, take an appropriate action against them.

Sources at VNSGU in their statement have implied that medical faculties involved in the racket are from Patan, Ahmedabad and Surat. Role of around six alleged faculties is currently under scrutiny by the university authorities.

Initial investigation points out that how specific signs on final year MBBS exam answer-books were made by the MBBS students to secure high marks.

TOI reported that the committee formed to investigate role of faculties involved in the racket includes Dr R Dixit, dean, GMC, Surat; K N Bhatt, dean, medical faculty, VNSGU; and V D Naik, a VNSGU syndicate member.

"The committee has started inquiry into role of medical faculties in favouring the students. The inquiry is likely to take around two months' time since the investigation involves examination of number of documents and questioning of many," said Dakshesh Thakar, vice-chancellor of VNSGU.
