AHMEDABAD: An MBBS student who was disallowed from joining his internship program due to a misprint in the mark sheet that declared him as having failed, was provided relief by the Gujarat High Court, which directed the Gujarat University and BJ Medical College authorities to issue him a corrected mark sheet.

TOI writes about the MBBS student Shyamal Shah who was declared failed in the college’s internal examination due to a typing error and the result was reflected in the same way in his final mark sheet issued by the university. This lead to him not being allowed to pursue the planned internship.

Shah, a 90 percent scorer, with a good academic record, finding it difficult to believe made inquiries and to his dismay discovered that the university had instead of marking a 15 for his internal exam assessment, had put him down as 5, resulting in him being declared- failed. The officials admitted their mistake and conceded that in place of the 15 marks he had scored in the internal test of surgery, only 5 marks were reflected.

The college authorities sent the corrected details to the university. However, they refused to make a correction in the final mark sheet, citing a rule that said that internal exam scores could not be changed in the final mark sheet reports TOI.

The student then approached the high court seeking its directive to the university for the correction in the mark sheet and permission to participate in the MBBS internship program.
