Ahmedabad: In a meeting held on Tuesday, a high powered committee in the state seems to have rejected the idea of online admission to medical courses. The authorites made it clear that there would be only be form-filling process that would be done through website. With this, the authorities have put a fulls stop to the speculations about the predicted admission procedure of medical and paramedical courses in Gujarat.

This comes after a meeting between the Members of the state's Admission Committee for Medical and Paramedical Courses (ACMPC) and state health minister Nitin Patel on Tuesday.

The officials said that online procedure is not much appropriate as it has much possibility of mistakes and it could cost one medical seat . Explaining the causes behind the online medical admission officials told TOI, "Unlike engineering courses where one can provide admission above the number of seats - taking into account a bit of reshuffle in initial months - medical courses have fixed seats. The presentation was prepared by the admission committee about the online procedure but officials felt that the process should be implemented gradually."

"One of the biggest changes this year would be change in admission criteria for BAMS course. So far, the rule prescribed that only those students having Sanskrit as a subject in board exams would be termed eligible. However, experts had pointed out that no other states have such a criteria and thus a proposal was sent by the Gujarat Ayurvedic University at Jamnagar which was considered," said an official.

After the primary procedure offline admissions would take place at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, the officials elaborated.
