Gujarat: Even though GUJCET 2016 has been conducted on May 10, Gujarat Admission Committee for Professional Medical Courses (ACPMC) has not been given a final go ahead to admit students seeking admission to medical courses in the state. ACPMC on their part has set up rules for finalizing admission to medical, dental and paramedical courses. However, they have yet not been able to get the permission from the state government on the set rules. The legal department of the state government has to give it approval on the matter.

This is the case even though HSC science results were declared one month earlier. The admission for students in engineering courses has begun, and at present, it seems that medical admissions in the state are likely to get delayed.

Till recently, over the prevailing confusion of state CET vs. NEET for medical admissions in the state, there was also confusion whether the class XII results of state board will have no impact on the merit list. However, after the Neet ordinance the stance for state CET was cleared. The ACPMC had later proposed that 25% management quota seats will be filled through Neet and the balance, 75% through GUJCET.

After the government abolished the NRI quota and allocated the 25% quota to management seats, ACPMC considered that a common consortium for these seats is the only viable option.

Officials said to TOI that once the rules are cleared by health and legal departments, the ACPMC will begin online registration.

On one hand the provisional admission to engineering courses has started; the online registration for medical aspirants in the state has not even begun.
