Gujarat: 72 Professors, Lecturers to be transferred to Medical Colleges for MCI inspection
The state government had taken various initiatives in order to fill up the vacancies but the recruitment process drew a lot of controversy, leaving the medical colleges high and dry.
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has announced to transfer 72 medical faculty members from various medical colleges to GMERS colleges as the Medical Council of India (MCI) is going to inspect these colleges soon.
This directive comes after the state's recruitment process got mired in the controversy.
A recent government notification, dated 18th September, reveals 72 faculty members of state medical colleges to have been transferred to other medical colleges. These include medical teachers ranging from professors to lecturers.
On being asked about the transfer, State authorities informed The Times Of India that most faculty members have been moved to GMERS colleges in Vadnagar and Himmatnagar (21 and 16 respectively). The medical college in Junagadh is also one of the major recipients of the faculty transfer.
The faculty members are primarily from medical colleges in Gotri, Sola, Valsad, and Gandhinagar, the officials added.
According to certain sources, these transfers will create some problems for colleges where the admission process concluded recently.
"Earlier, faculty members used to be transferred from government colleges in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Jamnagar," an official said, adding, "But with GMERS coming up and the number of seats rising, the major faculty requirement is at new colleges. The faculty members transferred in this round will have to be stationed at their new posts at least till the inspections are over."
The state government had taken various initiatives in order to fill up the vacancies but to no avail, the recruitment process drew a lot of controversy, leaving the state medical colleges high and dry.
