Punjab:The Punjab Government made it explicitly clear to the Punjab and Haryana Court on Friday, that it has no plans of taking over the reins of Gian Sagar Medical College, Banur .

Punjab Advocate General, Atul Nanda, appearing on behalf of the state at a resumed hearing on a petition filed by some students for resumption of classes said that the government was not aware of the college's liabilities. It neither had the resources or the expertise to take over the college. He was replying to a court query in the face of the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust failing to put forth trustee details and clarify its financial status among other information asked for by the court on the second deadline appearance in Court.

A new advocate who appeared before Justice RK Jain’s bench for one of the trustees was objected to by the petitioner students’ lawyers, as he also was unable to divulge details about trustee status.

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported at an earlier hearing on the matter , a new trustee, Varinder Kumar was introduced to the court. However, Mr. Kumar, was also unable to produce any evidence regarding the old trustees having resigned and new ones taking over. “No resignation, no resolutions, no trust deed, etc was produced by the trustee,” Secretary, Medical Education and Research, Punjab, Vikas Pratap told the High Court.

The stake holder meeting had been ordered by the High Court in order to break the deadlock. The college had remained closed since February 1. The government also conceded ignorance on the part of the new trustee regarding the present liabilities and stated that he merely claimed that all problems would be resolved within six months.

The High Court bench adjourned the Friday hearing for Monday; telling all present that another chance was being given to the college management to give details about its new trustees, and the college's current financial status. It also asked the management to come up with a revival plan, if any, at the next hearing.

The Court said since the future of many students was at stake, the management was being given a last chance to rescue the situation.

Meanwhile, the High Court in an oral instruction, asked the state to work out the GSMC student shift to other medical institutions of the state, reports HT.
