Goa Medical College and Hospital to have a 500-bed super-speciality block

Goa Medical College and Hospital Complex (GMC) has announced its plans to launch a 500-bed super-specialty block. The Rs 386 crore project will have its foundation stone laid in the next three months.

The complex will in-house 11 super specialty facilities including endocrinology, oncology and liver transplant under one roof. In addition, there are plans to make liver and bone marrow transplant, with departments including, medical and surgical gastroenterology, in the future too.

The details on the planned block also reported that all the medical and surgical super-specialty departments will be accommodated in one building.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza said the cabinet has granted its nod for construction of 500-bed super-specialty block with part central assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Sawastha Seva Yojana (PMSSY)

“We had initially proposed to have a 300-bed facility but following recommendations from the select committee of GMC, we decided to upgrade the project to a 500-bed super-specialty block,” D’Souza said adding that of the Rs 386 crore, the State share would be of Rs 266 crore and the Centre would give Rs 120 crore scheme.
