Goa Medical College may to have new Administrator soon
Panaji: In order to smooth functioning of the state’s premier health institution , Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), the government is planning to appoint a new administrator.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, while discussing the problems of Goa medical college and hospital, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said, the major problem which need to be tackle is the shortage of water. The GMC is facing the problem of paucity of water very badly.
He further said that several other complaints have been registered related with the administration which need to short out.
Speaking with Navhind, D'souza said "we are not in a confidence to assure to tell what and who is one creating trouble while on the other hand Public Work Department (PWD) officials claims that they are supplying enough amount of water.“I really do not know how to resolve this issue of water supply to GMC. If we believe the PWD officials, then there could be a possibility of underground water leakage in the water supply pipeline,”
He further said that to resolve these shortcomings in a systematic way, there should be a special administrator to coordinate between the GMC affairs and the government. However, when the government decided to appoint a single-member fact-finding committee to find out the shortcomings in GMC, allegations were made that the government is appointing a member, who is a relative of a BJP leader.
“If somebody raises suspicion before the committee is appointed, how can we go ahead,” he added.
Apart from the these shortcomings when Deputy Chief Minister asked a question on the other facilities of GMC as infrastructure D'souza replied that the work of girls’ hostel and lecture halls is almost complete, while the work of the auditorium will be completed before the inspection by the Medical Council of India .
"The other works will be complete soon as all the work running on its time process. There is no postponement of operations including emergency surgeries on April 10 due to the problem of power supply tripping frequently and no water supply to GMC resulting in the non-availability of linen" said D'souza.
