Goa medical College Hospital security tightened

Goa: CCTV cameras are set to be installed at Goa Medical College Hospital to tighten the security for the doctors at its premise. The timeline set for the project is 30 days.

The decision comes close on the heels of a recent incident reported at the hospital where a relative of a patient attacked the doctor on duty.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar himself chaired a recent meeting at the Secretariat over the issue of providing increased safety to doctors as well as to consider other issues.

In addition to installation of CCTVs in each ward and passages, there will be deployment of police personnel at 5-6 key points in the hospital. Police will do a regular patrolling.

As reported by a local daily, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, health secretary Sudhir Mahajan, chairman of Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC) and MLA Rajan Naik, vice chairman and MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, a delegation of Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) and other officials attended the meeting.

D’Souza also implied that a weekly review will be conducted of the security at the college on order of the CM. Extra training will be provided to the security personnel to handle different situation which might occur.

Besides, a strike notice given by GARD has now been withdrawn on the assurance given by the government regarding safety of doctors.
