Goa Health Minister calls for 6 week course in Neuro Developmental Treatment

Panaji: Stressing on the importance of providing exposure to those in the medical field in order to help bring change in society, the Minister for Health, Shri Vishwajit Rane said that it is the duty of the Government to encourage the passion and zeal of the doctors, by ensuring that they get opportunities to be exposed to the technical and scientific advancements in the medical field.


Shri Rane was speaking at the valedictory function held in Dona Paula, where therapists underwent a 6-week course training in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT).


Shri Rane added that the Government is committed to bringing changes in pediatric physiotherapy which will help the young children so that they can become mobile and independent. The Minister informed of plans to refurbish the Paediatric Neuro Rehabilitation Centre (PNRC) at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim. He also said that the authorities will hold more such training courses and will engage the services of more physiotherapists soon.


Course instructor, Dr Judith Bierman thanked the Minister for Health for being supportive of having such continuing education for
physiotherapists. She highlighted some of the significant moments of the course.

The course was a training programme for therapists working with those with developmental disabilities, especially children with cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists from Goa, and other parts of India and abroad participated in it.


Present on the occasion were Paediatric Physiotherapist at District Hospital, Mapusa, Dr Reina Fernandes, Course Coordinator, Dr Loganathan Gurusamy, Orthotist, Shri Umesh Raje, among others.
