Goa: Government has come forward to grant support for the students appearing for the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) categories.

It has formulated special tutorial classes for XIIth science students from ST and SC communities. Under this launched scheme, around 100 meritorious students will get free 45-day coaching.

The coaching classes will begin from March 24 to provide training for students appearing for medical courses through the competitive exam of GCET.

“The commission had asked educational institutions to furnish names of students from SC and ST communities, who are willing to appear for GCET. Accordingly, over 250 applications were received by the commission, and, from which 100 students would be selected 50 each for two centres after a screening process by agency,” Anant Shirwaikar, chairman of SC/ST commission told ‘The Navhind Times’ on Friday.

As further implied by him, the coaching is to be provided by a reputed private professional institute. Besides tutorial classes, the students will also be provided a transport allowance and refreshments for the day long classes.
