Goa Common Entrance Test draws 5000 aspirants

Goa: 5000 aspirants have already submitted their application for the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET). The last date of submission was April 2. However, there is still scope for applying to the exam (with a late fee submission) till April 29.


The official sources have expressed hope of receiving an addition of 1000 applications, before the final date. The exam, this year, will be held on May 10 and 11.


GCET has introduced two new courses this year-which saw the addition of 2000 seats as per two more courses. Besides, 50 more seats have been added by the Vrundavan Institute of Nursing Education, Colvale, for its professional degree course this year.


In addition, a proposal by Bharatiya Sanskruti Prabodhini's Gomantak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre based in Shiroda to join the GCET has been recently approved by the state government. The institute offers a bachelor's in ayurveda medicine and surgery.


TOI reported, until 2014, the GCET was held for admissions to professional degree seats in Goa in the streams of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering and homeopathy.


Last year, admissions to allied health science courses (AHS) of bachelor of physiotherapy, bachelor of occupational therapy, bachelor of optometry, BSc in medical imaging technology and BSc in anaesthesia technology at Goa medical college, and the BSc course in nursing at Institute of Nursing Education, too, were carried out through GCET.
