Nagpur: The extended last date for purchase of medicine for all the 16 government medical college and hospitals (GMCHs) has been set for January 31 by the state government. With most colleges having exhausted their stock of medicine or being on the verge of finishing, will now be able to purchase them under the existing rate of contract.

The Government announced this decision on Tuesday. This development will lead to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research losing some of the medicine-related contracts through termination.

The sixteen GMCHs of the state that fell under the supervision of the state’s Department of Medical Education and Drugs were buying the necessary medicines and other articles from various pharmaceutical companies, as per the rate contract.

However, according to the Public Health Department's

Government Resolution dated July 26, 2017, it is mandatory that all health institutes under government supervision buy medicines and other essential goods from the medical cell of Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation Limited.

Accordingly, now government medical institutions have registered their medicine requisition with the cell and the tendering is on and bound to take some time to complete, reports TOI.
