GMCH Sector 32 to soon get a director/principal; 12 contenders for the post

Dr Atul Sachdeva, Head, Medicine Department, Dr Ravi Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Dr B S Chavan, Officiating Director-Principal, and Dr Sudhir Garg, Head, Orthopaedics department are the top four contenders for the position of Director Principal


Chandigarh: Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 has received 12 applications for its Director /Principal’s position. These include 9 from GMCH and others from AIIMS, New Delhi and PGI Chandigarh.


The application submission was last dated for June 28th. The UPSC will soon be announcing the dates for an interview of those shortlisted and meetings for the same are to be held in Delhi.


One of the doctors has already ruffled feathers by approaching the court challenging the selection process.


Dr Atul Sachdeva, Head, Medicine Department, Dr Ravi Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Dr B S Chavan, Officiating Director-Principal, and Dr Sudhir Garg, Head, Orthopaedics department are the top four contenders for the position reported TOI.


The selection for the position has been lying pending for the past one and a half years.


It took a year for the department of personnel and training to decrease the age for the post from 59 to 58


Soon after court was moved by faculty, GMCH demanding that the recruitment for the post be done on the pattern of Punjab Medical Colleges.


Dr Atul Sachdeva completed his tenure as the director-principal on April 23, last year following which additional charge was handed over to Dr A K Janmeja who retired December end. Presently, Dr Chavan, being the senior-most has been holding the post of Director-Principal.
