GMC Patiala inspected by MCI for additional seats granted

Patiala: An inspection of the Medical Council of India team took place at the Government Medical College to check clinical facilities and infrastructure. The visit is mandatory for colleges given seat hikes.The Government Medical College was granted 50 additional seats in 2016.


It takes 5 years for additional seats to be regularized after an annual inspection for this period. The MCI team checked the laboratories, intensive care units, wards, and operations theatres to look into facilities and equipment.


They also sought departmental records from doctors and support staff of their respective departments. A meeting was held with Dr BS Sidhu reported HT.


Dr OP Mishra from Institute of Medical Sciences, Varanasi, led the MCI team. Other members of the team were Dr JM Teja from Gujarat Medical College and Robin Ira Shah from North Bengal Medical College, West Bengal and Dr V Venktraghavan from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute; The team spent time with the nurses as well.
