GMC Kathua bhoomi pujan heralds development in the region

Kathua: Bhoomi Pujan for the Rs. 102 crore Government Medical College building was conducted by the Kathua, MLA, Rajiv Jasrotia on Monday taking the region on its path to development. The project is to be supervised by the Public Works Department here at Kathua.


The medical college project is meant to be completed in a 2 year period in two phases.Rs 56 crore has been sanctioned for the Medical College block building, while another Rs 46 crore has been earmarked for the hostel block.


The legislative assembly member, addressing the gathering on the occasion said that the long-awaited construction of Government Medical College building has been finally started and would benefit Kathua and the peripheral population as well, once completed.The starting of the new college would end the region's dependency on GMC Kashmir and also strengthen the health infrastructural facility of the area facilitating health care for people nearer home.The region would also turn into an educational hub, added the MLA.


He also spoke of the extensive road network initiated in the region in the last three years facilitating access to the region. A drinking water project worth Rs. 100 crore for Kandi area has also been initiated, the MLA informed State Times.


PWD Ram Paul, AEE, along with other distinguished citizens of the areas were present, along with the local population for the puja.
