PGI Chandigarh ranked No. 2 among medical colleges of the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, 2018

Chandigarh: "Future medicine will possibly treat the human body in a more dignified and less invasive manner and expressed belief that PGIMER will play its worthy role in this matter. Medicine is indeed both a science and art." Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Sunil Kumar Arora, stated that while addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the new academic session of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

January marks the beginning of the new academic session at the Institute which annually trains 400 postgraduate students in different specialities and super specialities in its various 50 departments.

Heaping praise on PGI Chandigarh for being one of the most premier medical institutions in our country, he congratulated the institute for being ranked No. 2 among medical colleges of the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, 2018.

During the occasion, CEC Arora said, "In this competitive world an institution has to constantly upgrade itself to stay abreast of the times." He stated that the future medicine will possibly treat the human body in a more dignified and less invasive manner and expressed a belief that PGIMER will play its worthy role in this matter.

The World Health Organization (WHO) prescribes a ratio of 1 doctor to 1000 persons. But in India it is estimated that the ratio is a meagre 0.62 to 1000 persons, he pointed out.

"This huge demand and supply gap is being filled by 'quacks' or charlatans with no recognised degree who endanger the lives of patients. We all have to work together to eradicate these maladies," the CEC stressed.

Shri Arora urged the Medical students to keep their morale up even when challenged. He emphasized that ideas rule the world. Today we are not so much limited by access or resource as much by our own imagination. "Today's medicine was yesterday's research; and today's research will become tomorrow's medicine. So think out of the box"

The question is where we see it in 10, 20 and 50 years from now. The foresight, resolve and zeal of its present leadership will determine that; he added.
