Lucknow: King Gorge's Medical University(KGMU), has detained forty students from giving their MBBS final year exam that began on Tuesday, on account of attendance shortage.

The students who rushed to the University's Vice Chancellor with their grievance, were unable to meet him The theory exam for Medicine 1 was scheduled for the day.

"Nothing can be done now. Their attendance was short so they cannot sit for any exam as per MCI. Only after six months, if they can make up for their attendance, can they sit for the exams then," said Medical Superintendent, KGMU, Prof Vijay Kumar.

"This happens every year. Students miss out on classes, run home on every holiday and then have to face the detainment," he added.

The undergraduate student version was a bit different from that of the medical superintendent's, who emphasized that this situation was not an every year phenomena and that it had arisen four years ago, when 56 students were detained by the then Vice chancellor, for shortage of attendance.

"In the last few years, if there was a minor shortage, considerations were made. Not this time. We will have to wait out an additional six months now," said a student.

"In the last month, there was a lot of issue on our fee which was hiked first and then roll backed a little. We did miss out on a few classes then. That should also be taken into account," said another, reported the TOI.
