First: Government Medical colleges in Rajasthan to offer MBBS seats under NRI quota

Jaipur: Government medical colleges in Rajasthan are for the first time going to offer MBBS seats in the NRI quota category as the State Directorate of Medical Education has taken out a notification to this effect.

Through the notification, Medical Education Department implemented the decision of the cabinet in 2014-15 and announced the process of entering 15 percent NRI quota in three medical colleges.

In 2015, the government had allowed 15% NRI quota even in government medical colleges. It was decided that after the academic session 2014-15 if the MBBS seats will increase in the government medical college, 15% out of the increased seats will be filled by NRI quota.

If you look at the order of the department, then in Kota, Ajmer, and Udaipur Medical Colleges, 15 percent reservation will a provide an in total 30 MBBS seats for NRI quota. While there are three more government medical colleges including Jaipur, Bikaner and Jodhpur, they will not see reservation as no seat increase has happened in the medical colleges.

Recently, the Central Government has increased MBBS seats in medical colleges across the country to give 10 percent reservation to the economically backward class. Talking specifically about Rajasthan, more than 450 MBBS seats have been increased in various medical colleges. In Government Medical College, Kota 100 seats had increased, 50-50 seats were increased in Ajmer and Udaipur Medical College.

In these three colleges, the increased number of 200 seats will now be also see the offering of seats to NRI quota at 15% reservation. For the entry of NRI quota, the fee of the US $ 1.05 million has been finalised. The fees will see an annual increment of 5 percent each year, the notice added.

The notice goes on to stress that at these medical colleges, the allocation will only be done to meritorious candidates under the NRI Quota. If in case the NRI quota seats go vacant, the same shall be converted into general category seats
