First batch with 100 MBBS seats begins at Government Medical College Rajouri

Rajouri: The classes of the first batch at Government Medical College Rajouri (GMC Rajouri) has begun with the allotment of 100 MBBS seats recently. The medical college had received the consent by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to start the course in May this year.


The inauguration was done by the Advisor to the Governor Satya Pal Mallik, K Vijay Kumar.


Kumar informed that the work on the digital library as well as to make the campus Wi-Fi free is under progress and would be completed at the earliest.


Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that 4 medical colleges including Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kathua and Rajouri with a total of 400 MBBS seats were going to start the admission process for UG medical aspirants for this academic year of 2019-20 in the Jammu and Kashmir.


Currently, there are 500 MBBS seats at state-run medical colleges. Now with the establishment of new medical colleges, 400 MBBS seats have been added taking the total to 900.

During the inauguration event of GMC Rajouri, KK Sharma and K Skandan, Advisors to Governor; Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner, Government Health and Medical Education; MLC Vibodh Gupta, Mohammad Aijaz Asad; District Development Commissioner Rajouri; Yougal Manhas, Senior Superintendent of police, Yash Yashpal Sharma Direction Coordination GMCs, Kuldeep Singh,Principal GMC, senior officers of civil police administration were also present.


Meanwhile, a few days ago, the GMC Baramulla with an allotment of 100 MBBS seats was inaugurated. Besides, the state government had approved the opening of two more Government Medical Colleges in the State-one at Udhampur and another at Handwara.


The GMC Baramulla has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 189 crore wherein a batch of about 100 MBBS students shall pursue their medical education during its 1st academic session.
