PATNA: An FIR lodged against former AIIMS Patna Director, Girish Kumar Singh was quashed by the Patna High Court recently.

The complaint was lodged on October 22 last year with SC/ ST police station in Patna, by Ajay Choudhary, a former senior resident doctor AIIMS, alleging to have been abused with caste overtones by both Singh and Dr. Prem Prakash Gupta, Head, Department of Pharmacology when he went to their chamber to ask them why his contract had not been extended when all his other colleagues had been granted a work extension.

Mr. Singh's Counsel, Mr Pandey informed the court that it was on the basis of this FIR that his client was arrested as soon as he reached the AIIMS guest house in Patna from Lucknow. On November 14 last year.

"The arrest order was given by the then IG (CID, Weaker section) Anil Kishore Yadav. Later it surfaced that ADJ-II court of Akhilanand Dubey in Patna had ordered police to take no coercive action against Singh on November 3 but he was arrested defying the order," said Pandey adding that Dr. Singh though was released immediately after being produced in court.

The Counsel clarified that a contempt hearing was ongoing against IG Kishore in the matter before a division bench of Justice Dr Ravi and Justice S Kumar in which the show cause submitted by Yadav had been rejected by the court, reports TOI.

The judgment was pronounced by Justice Birendra Kumar.

Singh is at present at the King George Medical University, Lucknow as the Orthopaedic Head.
